Feature Request: Configurable Required Signers per Workflow Step
Summary:
Enable configuration of required signers when multiple people are assigned to the same workflow step. Users should be able to designate which individuals are required to sign before the workflow can advance, with clear visibility into who has signed and who is still pending.
Problem Statement:
Today, when multiple people are assigned to a workflow step, the system does not distinguish between required and optional signers. This makes it unclear whose action is actually needed to proceed and can result in bottlenecks, unnecessary follow‑ups, or steps being advanced without appropriate approvals. Teams lack an efficient, reliable way to manage multi-signer approval scenarios at a single workflow step.
Proposed Solution:
Allow administrators or workflow owners to configure, for each workflow step, which assigned users are designated as “required signers.”
Support selecting all assignees as required, or only a subset of them, per step.
Prevent the workflow step from advancing until all required signers have completed their approval/signature action.
On the workflow advance screen, clearly display:
Which required signers have already completed their action
Which required signers are still pending
Any optional signers, if configured, and their status
Optionally, provide visual indicators (e.g., counts or status badges) in the main workflow view to highlight steps waiting on required signatures.
Benefits:
Ensures that critical approvals are always captured before a workflow step advances.
Reduces confusion by clearly showing which signers are required and who is still outstanding.
Decreases delays and follow-up effort by giving teams transparent status on multi-signer steps.
Improves compliance and auditability of approval workflows, especially in regulated or multi-stakeholder environments.
