Reset Workflow On What-If

Feature Request: Reset BOE Workflow After What-If Runs

Summary:
Automatically reset the workflow status of any affected BOEs on a proposal when a What-If is executed, and notify the corresponding workflow assignees that their BOEs require re-review due to updated estimates.

Problem Statement:
When a What-If is run on a proposal containing BOEs, the resulting changes to BOE estimates are not reflected in the existing workflow state. Workflow assignees may be unaware that key inputs have changed and continue working based on outdated assumptions. This creates a risk of inaccurate approvals, missed rework, and misalignment between proposal assumptions and BOE details.

Proposed Solution:
When a What-If is executed on a proposal:

  • Identify all BOEs whose estimates or other key parameters are impacted by the What-If scenario.

  • Reset the workflow state of those affected BOEs to a configurable “Needs Review” (or equivalent) status.

  • Automatically notify the BOE workflow assignees that their BOEs have changed and now require review.

  • Provide a summary in the notification of what changed (e.g., delta in hours/cost, key drivers) where available.

  • Log the reset and notification event in the BOE’s history/audit trail for traceability.

  • Ensure that unaffected BOEs retain their existing workflow status and are not reset or notified unnecessarily.

Benefits:

  • Ensures BOE owners are immediately aware of estimate changes driven by What-If scenarios.

  • Reduces the risk of decisions being made on outdated or invalid BOE data.

  • Improves auditability by clearly capturing when and why workflow states were reset.

  • Streamlines collaboration between proposal teams and BOE assignees by automating notifications.

  • Increases confidence in proposal quality and consistency between high-level scenarios and underlying BOEs.
