Feature Request: Copy and Bulk Copy BOEs Across Tasks, PBS, and Proposals
Summary:
Enable users to copy and bulk copy BOEs, PBS, and Tasks within and across proposals. Users should be able to duplicate, move, or merge BOEs and related PBS/Task structures in bulk, including selectively copying only certain BOE data, to efficiently reuse and reorganize effort estimates with minimal manual rework.
Problem Statement:
Today, users must manually recreate or individually copy BOEs and associated PBS/Tasks when they want to reuse existing effort estimates across similar work. This is slow, error-prone, and discourages reuse of well-defined BOEs. When proposals are split or merged, or when similar PBS/Tasks recur across proposals, users lack an efficient way to move or merge BOEs at scale. As a result, they spend significant time duplicating effort and risk inconsistencies between proposals that should share common estimating logic.
Proposed Solution:
Enable flexible copy and bulk copy operations for BOEs, PBS, and Tasks with the following capabilities:
Allow users to copy a single PBS or Task (including its BOEs) to a different Task or PBS within the same proposal or in another proposal.
Support bulk copy of multiple PBS/Tasks (and their BOEs) in a single operation, including across proposals.
Provide options to:
Duplicate entire PBS/Task structures with all BOEs.
Copy only selected BOE data (e.g., specific BOEs, line items, or sections) from one location to another.
Support “merge” behavior where copied BOEs can be added into an existing PBS/Task structure without overwriting unrelated content.
Offer controls to manage naming, IDs, and references during copy (e.g., auto-renaming, conflict resolution rules) to prevent unintended overwrites or duplicates.
Present a preview/summary of what will be created or merged before confirming the operation.
Benefits:
Dramatically reduces manual effort to reuse and reorganize BOEs across similar PBS/Tasks and proposals.
Improves consistency and quality of estimates by promoting reuse of proven BOE structures instead of re-creating them from scratch.
Speeds up proposal creation, especially when splitting one proposal into many or consolidating multiple smaller proposals into a unified one.
Increases flexibility for users to fine-tune what is copied (entire structures vs. selected BOE data), aligning the tool with real-world workflows.
Lowers risk of errors and omissions when moving or merging BOEs across proposals, resulting in more accurate and reliable estimating.
