Feature Request: Quarter-Based Time Phasing and Grouped Pivot Selections
Summary:
Enable users to pivot data by fiscal quarter (QTR) in the BOE Pro pivot grid and organize pivot selection fields into logical, expandable groups (e.g., Resource, Task, Cost, Period). This will make time-phased analysis more flexible and navigation of pivot options more efficient.
Problem Statement:
Currently, the pivot grid time phasing options do not support quarter-based (QTR) aggregation. Users who need to analyze data at a quarterly level must either approximate using months or export data for external manipulation, which is inefficient. Additionally, pivot selection fields (such as Resource, Task, Cost, and Period/time-phasing items) are presented in a flat, ungrouped list, making it difficult and time-consuming to locate the desired fields, especially in complex models with many attributes.
Proposed Solution:
Add QTR as a supported time phasing option in the pivot grid so users can aggregate metrics at the quarterly level directly within BOE Pro.
Introduce logical grouping of pivot selection fields into categories such as:
Resource (all resource-related items)
Task (all task-related items)
Cost (all cost-related items)
Period (all time-phasing items, including QTR, month, year, etc.)
Within the pivot field list, display each category as an expandable/collapsible group to streamline navigation.
Ensure that the new QTR option is available wherever time phasing is configured in the pivot grid (rows, columns, filters, or measures, as applicable).
Maintain backward compatibility so existing pivot configurations continue to function without changes.
Benefits:
Enables more accurate and convenient quarterly reporting and analysis directly in BOE Pro.
Reduces reliance on external tools or manual workarounds for quarterly time aggregation.
Improves usability of the pivot grid by logically organizing fields, reducing time spent searching for the right items.
Supports better decision-making by making time-phased insights (including quarterly trends) easier to discover and interpret.
